Most modern Smith and Wesson revolvers have the serial number stamped on the butt of the gun's frame, in between the grips. Finding your Smith and Wesson serial number depends on the type of firearm you have. Amazon and other online book seller has the 4th Edition. For collectors, the 4 line rollmark indicates a definite post war gun. This was to combat the many Spanish counterfiet revolvers being produced. ![]() In May, 1948, Smith & Wesson changed their simple 'Made In USA' rollmark to a more complex four line bilingual version. ![]()
